You are getting answers that are the wrong way round. You need to check with planning authorities first to see whether they EVER give permission for all-timber buildings otherwise you run the risk of owning a piece of land that you cannot use. May I suggest that you look for a self-build group who already have land and permission to see if you can get involved there? Again the planners would know. Incidentally, 'timber framed' means different things to different people. Generally the term is now used in UK to describe a house that is basically a timber construction that is clad with a brick outer wall to keep the weather out and make it look conventional. Most modern houses are built this way. An alternative use of the phrase describes an all timber house that arrives on the back of a lorry as a kit. The Germans and Scandinavians are very good at this sort of construction, but don't expect them to be cheap. |
