Question: Old sheffield plate - if underside is showing, to replate or not?

We have two old Sheffield plate candlesticks. On some of the prominent bits, the underlying copper has been exposed. Should we replate or will it in fact reduce the value, as I have heard that modern replating is with pure silver and looks a lot more shiny than the original?

It will increase the value. True it won't look original but no one wants something that is seedy looking.

I wouldn't do anything without talking to an antiques dealer first.
