Question: Newport plum tree roots?

I can't seem to find any information on the type of root system on a newport plum. We are looking for a tap root system or something less aggressive that won't tear up the driveway or foundation. Any information will be help full. Thanks Dose the Newport have a tap root?

Tap roots do not cause heave, it grows directly downwards, the surface roots are the feeders and do not grow to a damage causing extent. The "Tap " looks for water, hence it's name "tap root " "Surface " roots look for nutrients.

No, they are a member of the Prunus family and do not have a tap root. Most trees don't have taproots except for a few like oak trees. Trees that cause damage are usually 'shallow rooted' trees. The Newport plum will be grafted onto Prunus root stock and they are generally harmless and are not known for causing any damage.
