Question: I live in houston where avg temp heat index is ~90. when temp drops outside ~75, inside my house is ~86. why?

Because you have trapped the heat inside. I am assuming that you haves your doors closed and windows closed.. It is beginning to cool off at nights now here so what I do is early in the morning, I open both doors(or more) and let the cool air in to replace the warmer air.. then when the temperature starts to go up... I close the doors and windows

Because the insulation in your house is keeping the heat in and the "cold " out. It works both ways.

The sun heated the outside of your house and it takes longer 2 cool the inside.. maybe you can hose down the outside of your house 2 cool the inside off..

You house is sealed so the temp in your home can hold longer. Open some windows and that should help.

Houses and similar things like swimming pools do not vary their temperatures as much as the air. If the air ranges from 70 to 110, a house or pool may range from 80 to 100. One interesting thing you can do is to record the high and low temperature outside each day and the high and low inside your home to observe this.
