Weep Vents in timber framed houses?
weep vents in timber framed houses?i'm looking for some honest advice about 'weep vents' in timber framed houses in scotland.I had an extension built about 4 years ago and a vestibule was removed and the hole in the outside wall was bricked up by the builder. What i have noticed is that i have a row of what looks like damp bricks where the 'hole in the wall' was bricked up after the vestibule was removed. The row of damp bricks is above the ground level its two bricks up and it's only the bricks where the vestibule used to be those that the builder put in.i've contacted the builder who says he has nothing to do with this and it's fine and will settle but it has only started to appear this year.i'm concerned it may be water behind the bricks but i have no idea what i should do. I've read on google that there should be 'weep vents' but i've no idea where they should go as there are some in the wall above the row of damp bricks but none below or in the row itself. Can anyone offer me some advice?

imagine brick laying, only with plywood blocks. will a mortar mix make a tight bond?if not, why not?i want to keep a gap between the timber blocks and still use the filling as the bonding structure. will mortar work if i make the timber porous?

I need to pullout some timber from a planter. any ideas on how to get it out without tearing up the planter?
i'm doing some landscaping for my uncle, and the previous owner of the house had put timber around two birds of paradise. i'm guessing they did it to terrace the planter. the problem it that the birds of paradise were pushing the brick out on the planter wall. so i've dug them out but now i need to get the wood out. i don't want to tear up the planter getting it out and i'd like to not leave big parts behind.any suggestions?

How much do Timber Frame Hybrid homes cost to build VS a "regular home"?
Hi my husband and I are looking to start building next year on 3 acres. I really like the look and style of some of the timber frame homes. However we do have a budget and I want to know do these cost more to build vs say a brick house? I have looked on the internet and all I can find are kits and the prices are like 500,000 and up. Keep in mind this is for like a 3000 square foot home. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Maybe that is the company doing the planning and the building? I didn't think it cost that much to build a log cabin have friends that have done it , so why would these hybrid homes cost more? I was just wondering if anyone on here has built a timber frame home, and how the costs compared. We live in Alabama, if that helps any. I know costs are lower on some things in the South . Please no rude answers and any help would be great thanks LOL NOOO I dont want to pay 500,000 That is what they are saying they are on a few of the websites That is why I am asking do they really cost that much if you dont use their builders?
